Garbis, incredible for his 99 years, hates dogs but neglects to say why. Many people dislike dogs or are afraid of them after all. He eats well and drinks well, enjoying vintage wine, which loosens his tongue at the meal table, and is surrounded by his adoring family and a new partner, Seta, who has made him very happy in his last 5 years. Slowly, he reveals his shocking life story, some parts for the first time. Perhaps he is one of the last survivors of the atrocious genocide in Armenia in 1915 at the hands of barbaric Turks.

Holmquist is a master of the documentary having made more than 50, and I Hate Dogs is certainly masterful.
