It is a great honor and pleasure for the City of Osaka to host the 8th. Osaka European Film Festival.
This film festival is widely known for giving the first screenings in either Kansai or Japan of the latest films from Europe, and for providing opportunities for movie fans to hold dialogue with film directors, actors and actresses. As in previous festivals, I believe participants this year will enjoy a variety of unique programs, such as the ’Eiga-juku’, which gives cinema-loving students an occasion for discussions with movie-making professionals, a series of movies especially made for children, and a photo exhibition.
The Festival plays a significant role in deepening understanding of European societies and their diverse cultures through the most recent movies. I would like to express my deepest respect for Mr. Patrice Boiteau, Executive Chairman of the Festival, and the many others whose continued devotion and efforts make the event successful.
The City of Osaka is seeking to employ its rich history and tradition in building an environment that nurtures creativity by encouraging citizens to enjoy culture and the arts. We would like to ask for your cooperation and support in developing a city where people lead happy lives and which attracts visitors from around the world.
Finally, I would like to close my congratulations with the wish that the Osaka European Film Festival will continue to flourish and grow.
