On behalf of the citizens of Osaka, I congratulate the 11th Annual Osaka European Film Festival on its opening, and am delighted this grand event will continue to be held this year.
The festival, which celebrated its 10th anniversary last year, began its first edition in 1994, and ever since has been a great hit in Osaka, enabling citizens to enjoy screenings of outstanding, not-yet-released films and special appearances by talented directors and actors.
For those who made this possible, and to Mr. Patrice Boiteau, Chair of the Organizing Committee, I express my deepest respect for their undying passion and tireless effort in organizing and promoting such a meaningful event to help deepen our understanding of Europeユs rich culture and history through showings of the latest films, special screenings, and exhibitions, as well as lectures and discussions.
I ask for everyoneユs continued support for events such as this film festival to help build a city that attracts new industries and artistic culture and flows with information from all sources in all directions. At the same time, I envision a city that cherishes its history, traditions, and culture, which all citizens enjoy living in, and hope we can all work together in making this happen.
Lastly, I offer my sincerest wishes for the great success of the Osaka European Film Festival.
