On behalf of the citizens of Osaka, we would like to congratulate the 12th Osaka European Film Festival on its opening.
This festival, which began in 1994, has been exceedingly popular in Osaka, enabling citizens to enjoy screening of outstanding pre-release films and special appearances by international actors and directors.
As 2005 marks the 12th year of this festival, 12 different events will be held at as many locations around the city, featuring special events to mark the 2005/2006 Germany in Japan Year, the Japan-EU Year of People to People Exchanges, and the 25th anniversary of the Osaka - Le Havre (France) sister port relationship. With a rich content including the "Kinder Film Feature" showing movies created by Finnish children, a retrospective of the festival, art and photo exhibitions, this yearユs festival promises to appeal to an even larger audience than in the past years.
It is highly significant that the festival promotes international friendship while enabling the public to learn more about European history and culture. For all those who made this occasion possible, and especially to Mr. Patrice Boiteau, Chair of the Organizing Committee, we express our deepest respect and gratitude.
Osaka is striving to become a city offering ample cultural and artistic opportunities for the citizens. Taking advantage of its rich historic tradition, Osaka aims to be a focus of exchange involving people, goods, and information, and a vibrant center of cultural and industrial creativity. We look forward to having your continued support in this regard.
Please accept our heartiest wishes for the further success of the Osaka European Film Festival.
