On behalf of the citizens of Osaka, I congratulate the holding of the 13th Annual Osaka European Film Festival.
Since 1994, the festival has been growing steadily, enabling citizens to enjoy Japan premieres of outstanding European films and special guest appearances. The festival is contributing much to promote European culture and international goodwill in Osaka. I would like to thank Mr. Patrice Boiteau and all those who helped make this event possible most sincerely.
To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Osaka-Milan sister city relationship, film and photo exhibitions will be held in honor of the Milanese director, Luchino Visconti. The public will also be able to appreciate seldom shown Czech movies, works of the British artist Dave McKean, and various other programs.
The childrenユs films feature will include short animation by Croatian kids and a special lecture on filmmaking and education. Aiming to advance film in education and develop new talent for the future, these events promise to draw much attention.
I hold strong hopes that the 2006 Osaka European Film Festival will see great success again this year, continuing in its good tradition to enhance interest for European history and culture, and promote international friendship.
We are striving to create greater cultural and artistic opportunities in the citizensユ daily lives and to encourage creativity in cultural and artistic activities. I look forward to your support in making Osaka a more vibrant and energetic cultural center.
