La Boulangère de Monceau was the first in Rohmer’s six moral tales series. At just over 20 minutes in length this short film reflects the lack of funding available to Rohmer at the time but still neatly illustrates the central conceit of male indecision that drives the series. Lead actor Barbet Schroeder would go on to have a distinguished career as a director and producer most notably filming the 1990 Oscar winner Reversal of Fortune.
