Replete with snazzy song and dance numbers, luscious Indian cooking and the towering Swiss Alps, Tandoori Love is billed as the first European Bollywood-style movie.
George, a cook for a Bollywood film crew shotting in popular Switzerland falls for Sonja, a waitress about to marry her fiance Markus. When George takes a job in their restaurant and wows the customers with his wonderful cooking, Sonia finds herself caught in an unexpected love triangle.
With the success of Slumdog Millionaire, Bollywood films are all the rage. Tandoori Love goes much further down the Bollywood route than the popular Oscar winner in adopting the heightened Indian style and incorporating spontaneous musical routines, complete with body-popping supermarket cashiers and amorous chicken breasts.
Swiss director Oliver Paulus spent weeks studying in Indian kitchens and the film’s close focus on food preparation and presentation will doubtless see audiences rushing to the nearest Indian restaurant at the end.
