An ex-con and a transsexual with a passion for fixing lamps and Maria Callas form an unlikely relationship in the latest film from Greek director Panos H. Koutras.
Yiorgos is released from prison after serving fourteen years for murder and heads for Athens to look for his estranged son. Staying in a down market hotel, he becomes involved with Strella, a good-natured transsexual prostitute awaiting a sex change operation. Love blooms and it seems they might find the happiness that has always eluded them, but Yiorgos’s past is always on the verge of catching up with him.
Unable to find funding from traditional sources, A Woman’s Way was financed entirely independently, with non-professional actors over a period of ten months. Riffing on classical Greek tragedies and cinematic stereotypes this a love story with some unexpected twists.
