Iris, a young, attractive veterinarian, moves to the Dutch countryside to fulfill her dream of opening her own practice. Her arrival is met with suspicion by the local community who doubt both her professional and personal reputation, and treat her with hostility and contempt. Her long-term lover Paul, resentful of Iris’ new found independence, wants her to return to her old way of life.
Hope comes in the shape of Frank, a local man with romantic designs on the villages new resident. As Iris struggles to establish her position, she must call on all her reserves of strength to win over the townspeople and find her own piece of happiness.
Director Mady Saks died in 2006 at the age of 55. She was well known in Holland for her films concerning the position and role of women in society and Iris is one of a number of her works featuring a strong female lead.
