The latest film from Oscar winning Italian director Gabriele Salvatores, who made the international hits Mediterraneo and I’m Not Scared.
14-year-old Christiano lives in fear and awe of his father, Rino, a violent, alcoholic neo-Nazi who is trying to teach his son what it means to be a man. Shunned by most in the town they live in, their one friend is “Quattro Formaggio” who has been severely brain damaged in an industrial accident and is obsessed with an Italian porn idol. When Quattro violently rapes and kills a young woman, Christiano mistakenly believes his father is the guilty party.
A dark, confrontational drama As God Commands is the second time Gabriele Salvatores has adopted one of Niccolò Ammaniti’s novels. Teen actor Alvaro Caleca is the standout performer in a strong cast, portraying an innocent trapped in a corrupt world.
