The third feature from Hungarian director Krisztina Goda, Chameleon is a twisting comedy-drama about a con man discovering his true identity when he falls in love.
Gabor, a good-looking hustler, works as a cleaner sifting through his employer’s garbage to find information on the disillusioned women he preys on before draining their bank accounts. Things go wrong when he targets millionaire’s daughter Hannah, an injured ballerina dreaming of staging a comeback. As Gabor’s web of lies closes in on him, he can’t remember if he’s in it for money or love.
Chameleon was the first domestic film to be shot in Hungary’s recently opened Korda studios, a choice that no doubt helped it’s glossy representation of a modern Budapest filled with upscale apartments, fast cars and lavish parties. The film was a big hit domestically with lead actor Ervin Nagy drawing praise for his intense, moody charm.
