Sophie comes to the village where her uncle Roberto, a showman at fairs, has recently died in order to settle his estate. Roberto’s attraction was a huge stuffed whale. Sophie discovers the whale’s secret : the wishes of anyone who sleeps with her within the stomach of the whale will be granted. Sophie decides to test the truth of this and sleeps with several different men from the village. The men’s wishes are all granted.

The village is plunged into chaos as the consequences of all the fulfilled wishes threaten to destroy it. An attempt is made to reverse everything, but the whale can only grant wishes.

This is also the story of the love of a young couple which is consummated inside the whale and prevents the final catastrophe. The whale is then set afire and as it sinks into the lake the couple pop out of its mouth. Sophie sacrifices her life to the whale...and the whale swims away.
