Alexander Hacke (Einsturzende Neubauten) travels, records, experiences and participates in the rich sonic tapestry that Turkey, as a whole, continues to produce. An aural and visual document of lively Istanbul’s multiple genres truly echoing its geographic position, a bridge between east and west.
With his fully portable recording set-up, Hacke attempts to expose western ears to everything from the modern electronic scene, the psyche-rock and rock movements, through to the hip-hop posse’s and the classical arabesque styles emanating from this beautiful and unique culture. He takes us to street performances, living room jams, café gatherings, 18th Century baths as well as recording studio sessions.
All the while the voice of the people making this music and inhabiting this city is heard, their opinions and influences infusing both the music they make and the way they live.
