In a small Slovenian town, the professional funeral speaker, Pero, moves from grave to grave speaking to the living for the dead.
Surrounding Pero are his close-knit group of friends and relatives, an eclectic collection of regular, but not so ordinary, people whose daily lives and individual dramas provide Pero with all the material he could ever need to write his speeches. Some of the characters supplying him with inspiration include Pero’s suicidal grandfather, his masochistic girlfriend, the car obsessed best friend, a mute sister and numerous other individuals, whose lives are realistically represented with interrupting moments of joy, love and pain, with the beautiful backdrop of the Slovenian countryside as important a character as any other.
Throughout it all Pero uses his work to try and make sense of the tragedy and comedy that fills his life.
