This delightful summer escape from everyday life and stringent Soviet morality into the rural backwaters of Bohemia for a while, started out as a bet made between director and sponsors in a bar. Jan Sverak claimed he could make a full-length feature film for under a million krona, and he won, par excellence.
Radek and Franta, the cool boys, reclining in their stolen or borrowed jalopy convertible with the sawn-off roof, soon spot a brunette on the road with great potential and invite her to cruise along with them. It doesn’t seem to matter that her boyfriend is lurking somewhere. Nothing will stop the boys dreaming on during this ride, and the music of the famous Buty fits their indolent mood perfectly.
Travelling hopefully never to arrive, they steal, loot and enjoy pranging their disposable vehicle, against a simmering backcloth of lazy lust for Ana.
