Edo Lukman was born in Čakovec in 1949. He founded and since 1975 has led the Animated Film School in his hometown, known commonly as SAF. Young people recognize Edo and the School as being wholly respsonsible for animated film and artistic animation in general.

Many internationally known animation artists have worked in Čakovec. The SAF takes part in many ASIFA Workshop Group projects and international animation festivals.

Each year SAF organizes an International Animated Film Workshop in Čakovec. Edo Lukman is the well-known author of different workshop models, and he has taken part in near to 100 workshops at home and abroad (Austria, Germany, Danemark, Finland, France, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Scotland and the USA).
