Film & stage director, Giorgio Ferrara was born in Roma in 1947, studied philosophy and literature at Rome University, and graduated from the National Academy of Dramatical Arts « Silvio d’Amico ».
He worked as assistant director with Luca Ronconi & Luchino Visconti in an intense collaboration. In particular, he assisted the maestro on Ludwig (1972) editing the scenario in 1973, and on the play Old times de Harold Pinter (1973).
Giorgio Ferrara directed a documentary about Luchino Visconti when he came back to directing films and plays after becoming seriously ill during the shooting of Ludwig.
Since 1982, Giorgio Ferrara lives in Rome & Paris with his wife, actress Adriana Asti. As an actor, he has played in Shakespeare’s Measure for Measure and in Orlando Furioso by Ludovico Ariosto, directed by Luca Ronconi. With Adriana Asti, he directed and played in La vedova scaltra (C. Goldoni), L’Inserzione (N. Ginzburg), and Tre uomini per Amalia (C. Musatti). He has also played in Nina (A. Roussin), directed by B. Murat ; La Maria Brasca (G. Testori), directed by A. Shammah ; Alcool written & directed by Adriana Asti and Le Sedie (Ionesco), directed by T. Pericoli.
Director of the Paris Italian Institute since 2003.
