Five women, friends for 20 years, have now reached the age of 40. Five women whose relationship is strong enough to survive the occasional savaging, unspoken jealousy, or misunderstanding. Five women, young enough still to dream but mature enough to accept the inevitable. One, a cabaret singer, liberated and man-eating, must confront her drug-using daughter. Another, a widowed university professor, succumbs to the charms of a besotted student. The third, a beautician, is desired by men but ignored by the woman she loves. Another, engrossed in her TV career, cannot satisfy the needs of her companion. The last, unhappily separated from her husband, continues to raise her two children until she discovers she has an incurable disease. Living is not always easy...
